A Brave Heart Learning to Trust

Joleen is a beautiful 7-year-old Golden Retriever who has come to us from a breeder. She had never lived in a home before, so her whole world is changing and everything is new. This sweet girl has already made amazing progress in foster care and is slowly learning to trust, but she will need a very special home that can continue to support her on her journey.

When Joleen first arrived, she was very frightened and panicky, but with gentle care and patience, she has begun to find her confidence. She can still be skittish at times, so she will need a home where any children are teenagers and dog savvy, where the home is calm, predictable, and full of kindness. A secure garden with fencing at least 6ft high and solid gates is essential to help keep her safe, especially as she may regress a little when she first moves to her forever home.

Joleen loves being outside and thrives in a rural setting where she can explore, sniff, and enjoy nature. She enjoys long walks, has excellent recall, and takes great delight in running across the fields. However, she has a strong prey drive and has caught rabbits, so a home without cats or small furries would be best for her.

She is clean in the house, travels well in the car, walks nicely on a collar and lead, and sleeps peacefully through the night in her favourite spot where she can listen to the sounds of nature. Joleen eats her meals well and is happy to take treats gently from her fosterer. She has no issues with food aggression and enjoys the simple pleasures of daily life.

Joleen will need at least one kind, confident, and active resident dog to help guide her and provide companionship. She gets along well with other dogs but is quite independent and does not seek out constant interaction, so a gentle canine friend who respects her space would suit her best.

Her perfect home would be with someone who enjoys walking, gardening, and spending time outdoors, ideally someone retired or with plenty of time to devote to her. Joleen is not suited to city life and will need easy access to a garden and outdoor space throughout the day.

Joleen has some old pressure sores and skin issues from her past life on hard flooring, but these are healing well with treatment.

Joleen is a truly special girl who tries her best every single day. With time, love, and patience, she will continue to grow in confidence and become a wonderful companion.
