Toastie
Precious little Toastie has come such a long way since arriving with us from a breeder, but her journey is far from over. When she first arrived, Toastie was overwhelmed and terrified of the world around her. Hands that reached for her only made her flinch, as she didn’t yet understand that they could bring love, comfort, and kindness.
With time, patience, and gentle care, Toastie has begun to show glimmers of the sweet, tender dog she truly is. She remains a timid girl, but she is slowly learning that life doesn’t have to be so frightening. She recently had a much-needed bath after all the awful weather we’ve been having, and she was an absolute angel throughout. She sat so beautifully while being scrubbed and conditioned, then bravely allowed us to dry and brush her soft coat. Even when her ears needed a careful, sometimes uncomfortable clean, she let us gently tend to them, and afterwards seemed visibly relieved. With a little face trim, she looked so glamorous, and was a perfect role model for the other dogs waiting their turn!
Toastie is currently kennelled with both male and female dogs and finds comfort in their presence. She will need at least one kind and confident canine companion in her forever home to guide her, reassure her, and show her the ropes of this brand-new life. Although she was once too overwhelmed even to consider it, Toastie has now begun her harness training and has taken her first tentative steps. This is still very much a work in progress, but every little paw forward is a huge victory.
She has never lived in a home before, so her adopters will need to help her learn all about house training, family life, and the joys of home comforts. Toastie may always be a gentle, shy soul, but the day she chooses to wag her tail for you, or comes to you of her own choice, will be a moment you’ll treasure forever.
Toastie is looking for a calm, quiet, and patient home. She would be happiest in an adult-only household, but we believe she could live with older, dog-savvy children who understand that she can be nervous at times and must be treated gently. Her new family will need to continue supporting her journey with love, consistency, and kindness.
She has a Grade 1–2 patella luxation in her left hind leg, which may improve with gentle exercise as her muscles strengthen. Should she ever require further treatment in the future, this would not be covered by insurance. Her ears also require regular care to keep them clean and comfortable as they can be sensitive, something she is now beginning to accept with grace.
Toastie’s journey will take time, but she is worth every ounce of patience. She deserves to finally know what it feels like to curl up in a safe, warm home, to run free in a garden, and to feel the unconditional love of a family who will never give up on her. In return, you will be rewarded with the sweetest, most loyal little companion, a gentle soul whose trust is the greatest gift of all.
Please don’t let Toastie wait any longer. She’s ready to find her forever family and to finally discover that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.
