12-03-25 Fred originally came to us as a puppy but has sadly been returned through no fault of his own due to his owner’s illness. Fred is struggling with the changes in his life and is finding the kennel environment overwhelming. He is a sensitive boy who needs time, patience, and understanding to help him feel safe again. He could be homed as an only dog in the right circumstances, but could also be homed with a kind and steady resident dog.

Fred has not been well socialised and can be nervous and mistrustful around new people and can make the wrong decisions and nip when he is feeling overwhelmed. Due to this, Fred needs an experienced, adult-only home with no visiting children, where his adopters can help him build confidence at his own pace. While he enjoys human company once he trusts you, he can be wary of strangers and will need slow, careful introductions to new people, but would benefit from a home that didn't have many visitors.

When settled, Fred does bond with his human and can be very loving, he just needs to be allowed to take things at his own speed. He is very food-motivated, which will help with training, but he can also be vocal when he wants attention. Fred struggles with being left alone and will need owners who are home most of the time and willing to work on his separation anxiety gradually.

Although he walks well on a lead, Fred can be reactive to other dogs when out and about. His new family will need to continue working with him on this and manage his walks in quieter areas. He cannot live with cats, small furries, or chickens and will need to stay on a lead in places where they might be present. He has lived in a home and we are told that he is house trained, but may still have some mishaps at night; so he has been using puppy pads for the accidents that may occur.

Fred is looking for a calm, understanding, experienced home where he can feel secure. If you have experience with similar dogs and can offer Fred the stability he needs, he will be a loyal and loving companion once he's given the chance to settle in.
