Gwen
This lovely little girl is Gwen, who first came to us from a breeder. She was adopted into a kind and loving home where she began to learn about family life, but sadly she found it all too overwhelming, particularly around men. Her adopters did everything they could, but it became clear that Gwen needed a quieter and more suitable environment to truly thrive, so she has come back into our care to continue her search for the right forever home.
Gwen is a gentle soul who finds the world quite scary and needs a calm, quiet, adult-only home where she can feel safe and take things at her own pace. She relies heavily on other dogs for comfort and guidance, so she absolutely must have at least one kind and confident resident dog — ideally more than one — to help her settle, show her the ropes, and give her the reassurance she needs.
Since being back with us, Gwen has made some lovely progress. She now enjoys her home comforts and can often be found curled up happily in her donut bed. She is a sweetheart with other dogs and has even begun to have a little play with them. Gwen sleeps soundly through the night without a peep, loves her food, and enjoys sniffing around the garden. She will now take treats gently from your hand and has started tentatively coming up onto the sofa, which is a huge step for her. Human touch is still very worrying for her, but with patience and kindness, we hope she will continue to build trust.
Gwen is not a dog who is going to enjoy going out for walks, busy places, or adventures in the way many dogs might. For now, her world is the comfort of a safe home and garden, and she is happiest sticking to a gentle, predictable routine. In time, she may choose to sit on your lap, but her new family must understand that this will be on her terms, and trust will take time to earn.
Gwen has been spayed and during her procedure she also had a cyst and mammary lump removed, an inguinal hernia repaired, and two teeth extracted. Our vets have noted she has cauliflower ears developing, cataracts in both eyes, and a clicking patella on the left side which does not currently need treatment and may improve as her muscle builds with gentle exercise. She has also received treatment for mucky ears. Any future treatment needed for these conditions would not be covered by insurance, so her adopters must be prepared for this. Gwen has a travel document.
Gwen is a very special little girl who has been through a lot. What she needs most is a quiet, patient, and loving home with canine friends to guide her, where she can feel safe and treasured just as she is. With time, routine, and understanding, Gwen has so much potential to blossom further, and she deserves the chance to know a life full of comfort, kindness, and love.
