Ruth
Ruth is a beautiful lady who has already shown us just how brave and resilient she is. She first came to us in 2023 from a breeder in Ireland, having never lived inside a home before. At that time, she was a very shy and nervous little girl, unsure of the world and people around her.
With time, patience, and the kindness of foster families, adopters, and our kennel carers, Ruth has blossomed beautifully. The once-timid girl who kept her distance now enjoys affection from people she trusts. She dances with excitement when she sees her favourite humans, loves a fuss and a bum scratch, and is showing us every day just how much she wants to be loved.
Ruth was adopted and given a wonderful home, but her naturally “bossy poodle” side was a little too much for the gentle, quiet dogs she lived with. Out of kindness to all of their pets, her adopters made the very difficult decision to return her. We are so grateful to them for the love and progress they gave her.
Ruth is now in a foster home, where she has settled in very well and continues to grow in confidence. She relies on the resident dog in the home and loves having canine company, often sleeping next to him through the night and cuddling up together. Because of this, canine companionship is very important to her and she will need at least one confident resident dog in her new home, preferably a male.
In her foster home, Ruth enjoys being around her carers and is becoming much more comfortable with affection. She is easy to handle, enjoys cuddles, and will happily give little kisses once she feels safe with you. While she can still be a little shy with people she doesn’t know at first, her confidence continues to grow every day.
Ruth has made wonderful progress with her lead walking and now really enjoys going out for walks. She travels well in the car and is becoming more relaxed in busier environments too. She has even started accompanying her foster carer out for coffee or visits to the pub, where she is learning that the world can be a safe and enjoyable place.
She also loves to play with the resident dog in her foster home, enjoying gentle, quiet games together. Their calm play style suits her perfectly and highlights how important a friendly canine companion is for her confidence and happiness.
Ruth is housetrained and can be left for short periods of time, around a couple of hours, but she does rely on the reassurance of having another dog in the home. She has also become used to having her teeth cleaned, which has helped improve the condition of both her teeth and gums.
Ruth still shows occasional glimpses of the shy girl she once was, but the progress she has made is truly wonderful. She is now a happy little lady who enjoys the comforts of home life and the company of people and dogs she trusts.
Ruth was treated for an ear infection when she originally arrived with us. She has also had a dental where a few teeth were extracted, and the vets noted periodontal disease and gingivitis. Because of this, it is important that her new adopters continue to stay on top of her dental care and maintain regular teeth cleaning.
Ruth is a really sweet, gentle girl who is easy to care for and a pleasure to have around. She is looking for a calm, understanding home with a kind male dog who can continue to help guide her as she grows in confidence. After everything she has been through, Ruth truly deserves to find the loving forever home she has been waiting for.
