Shippy
01-04-25 This beautiful girl is Shippy and she came to us back in January from a breeder to find her forever home and start her new life. Unfortunately after assessment with our vet, it was noted that she had luxating patellas in both hind legs that were severe enough to require surgery. Little Shippy has been through so much over the last few months, first having surgery in her right leg and then once she had recovered enough, underwent the same surgery in her left leg. She is now a few weeks on from her second and final surgery and is doing so well. She has taken it all in her stride and has been a model patient. At the moment she is still on rest and so is confined to a kennel for most of the day to keep her still and is allowed for short walks outside on a lead, which will be gradually increased. We feel that she is now ready to look for her forever home and hope there is someone out there who is ready to adopt this special girl.
When Shippy arrived, she was very worried and overwhelmed to find herself here, but she has started to grow in confidence and has blossomed into a very sweet girl. She is easy to handle and will settle in your arms for a gentle fuss. Shippy will be looking for a calm and quiet home, where there was another kind and confident resident dog to be her friend and companion. She has never lived in a home before so her adopters will need to be kind and understanding as she settles in and learns all about home life and new skills like house training. She had never walked on a lead before arriving here and now can walk on a lead outside to the toilet, but hasn't gone for proper walks yet, so this is something her adopters will need to help her learn all about.
Once Shippy has been signed off of cage rest, we think she is going to love pottering around and exploring and we cannot wait to see her get a whole new lease of life! As well as her luxating patellas, Shippy arrived with an ulcer in her eye which has been monitored by our vets. She also arrived with very sore ears and has been receiving treatment for these which may be ongoing in her new home. Shippy has had 5 teeth extracted at the time of her spay. Any potential adopters would need to be aware that these issues would be classed as pre-existing and would not be coverable by insurance.
Shippy is an extremely sweet girl, who really deserves the best in life and so we are hopeful her perfect forever home will find her soon!
