05-06-25 A Gentle Soul Waiting to Bloom: Meet Buddy

Buddy is a 1-year-old Maltese cross who has come to us from a home through no fault of his own. This gentle little lad is shy at first and needs a bit of time and patience to feel safe, but once he begins to trust, he tries so hard to be brave. His foster carer describes him as a real joy to have around.

Buddy is particularly nervous around men and may bark at first because he finds it difficult to trust them. However, he’s already making little steps forward and shows a deep desire to be friends once he feels safe. He is more comfortable around women and builds trust with kind female humans more quickly.

He absolutely adores other dogs and will need a playful canine companion in his new home. Another friendly resident dog will help build his confidence and show him that the world isn’t such a scary place. Buddy hasn’t met any children yet, and because of his nervousness and fear of raised hands, at the moment we think he would be best suited to a calm, adult-only home where he can find the quiet, gentle space he needs to thrive.

Buddy walks beautifully on a harness and enjoys his walkies, happily accepting his harness being put on. He has been sleeping through the night in his foster carer’s bedroom alongside the other dogs and is making good progress with his toilet training. He’s had a couple of little accidents, but this is completely understandable in a new environment and he’s already showing that he just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction.

Eating has been a challenge for Buddy. He is anxious around food and approaches mealtimes with worry, but with gentle encouragement this is slowly improving. His new family will need to continue helping him feel safe around food, offering reassurance and kindness.

In time, Buddy will be the kind of dog who follows you from room to room, sits at your feet, and curls up on your lap for cuddles. He is already trying so hard to trust and just needs a home full of patience, love, and understanding. If you can offer this lovely little soul the comfort and companionship he longs for, Buddy will repay you with unwavering loyalty and affection.
