Sky
31-03-25 Sky originally came to us from a home around a month ago. She arrived with her friend Blue and they both found a wonderful home together. Sadly, although we are told they had always lived together, they struggled to share their new home and it became clear that it was in their best interests to be separated and become only dogs. Sky has been returned to our care and has gone straight into a foster home, where she is living as an only dog and is settling in well.
Sky will be best suited to a calm and quiet, adult only home, where she can be the only dog and get all of the fuss and attention for herself. She really is an amazing dog and in the right home she is truly going to thrive. Sky walks beautifully on a lead and is great on car journeys, so would be the perfect companion for adopters who like to head out on lots of adventures. Sky is a very smart girl, who will need an active home where she can be both mentally and physically stimulated. Her adopters noted that she can only be worn out by enrichment activities, like puzzle toys and kongs or sniff play in the garden. She would also love to try something like agility!
Sky can be reactive to other dogs when out and about, so she would benefit from being muzzle trained to ensure she is kept safe. She will try to chase birds, squirrels and cats so will need a home where there are no other animals and will need to be kept on a lead unless she is in a very secure area with no wildlife or other animals or dogs around. She can be very strong on a lead when she sees something she may want to chase, so her adopters will need to be strong enough to handle her and continue to work on her with her training. She can bark at unexpected noises, but settles and gets used to them quickly.
Sky is a bit of a houdini and can get into places where you wouldn't expect and is very food motivated, so any adopter would need to be careful not to leave out food on tables or counters. She is very excited to receive treats and can get carried away and will try to eat the treat while it's still in your hand, so her adopters will need to work on her with learning to take treats gently and not snatch them as she can accidentally nip in her excitement. For this reason we will be looking for an adult only home for her. She does love to chew and sometimes will pick up items to chew, but is easily distracted by her own toys and happy to swap whatever item she's taken for a toy.
Sky responds well to training and her previous adopters have been using clicker training, praise and treats with her and she is a very quick learner. She is now fully house trained (but may need some reminders in her new home), crate trained and able to do some basics like sit, on your bed, etc. She isn't keen on being left alone and does prefer a human to be in the room at all times, so her adopters will need to work on this with her and build up the times that she is left alone. However, with enough reassurance she sleeps through the night in her crate.
We are told that she can scale a 4ft fence with ease, so she will be looking for a secure garden with high fencing that will keep her safe. Sky is a wonderful home and cannot wait to find her forever family!
