Sheyla
One Year Waiting, One Heart Still Hoping – Sheyla Deserves Her Home
Sheyla is a 6-year-old crossbreed who came to us from war-torn Ukraine through War Paws Rescue. For most of her life, Sheyla lived in kennels, but through it all she has remained gentle, sweet, and full of love. She arrived at Many Tears in August 2024, and as we approach her one-year anniversary in rescue, we are more determined than ever to find her the home she so truly deserves.
Sheyla has a soft, affectionate soul. Once she knows you, she becomes a devoted companion who will lean in for cuddles, rest her paws gently on you, and nuzzle right into your chest for comfort. She is deeply loyal and craves the warmth of human companionship. For those lucky enough to know her, Sheyla is truly one of a kind.
She’s an active, medium-sized girl who loves walks, zoomies in the yard, and time spent exploring. She’s lead-trained, harness-trained, and walks beautifully beside you once she feels secure. Although she can be nervous around unfamiliar people, especially men, she is learning every day that the world is not such a scary place. She just needs time, kindness, and someone to believe in her.
Sheyla has never lived in a home before, so adopters should be prepared to help her learn new skills like housetraining and settling into home life. Her ideal home would be calm, quiet, and adult-only, with few visitors and no young children. Experience with overseas rescues or nervous dogs would be a real benefit.
Sheyla formed a very special bond with a male Chow named Dave, who has since been adopted. She can be selective about her dog friends and generally prefers males who are around her size. She could live with a calm, kind male dog or be very happy as the only dog in the home, as long as her people are around most of the time. She has met cats at the rescue and was fine with them so could potentially be homed with a dog savvy cat.
Medically, Sheyla has faced some challenges. Not long after arriving, she developed a nasal infection that was believed to be fungal (aspergillosis), causing mucus and erosion on her nose. She responded well to treatment and her nose healed beautifully, but her kidneys did not tolerate the antifungal medication, so it had to be stopped. Since then, her bloodwork has returned to normal and her symptoms are being managed conservatively. She may continue to sneeze or have mucus, and her nose needs wiping a few times a day. We don't know if this condition may reoccur or worsen in future, it will be considered a pre-existing condition and is won't be covered by pet insurance.
Sheyla has also been tested for travel-related diseases including Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Babesia, Borrelia, Anaplasmosis, and Canine Brucellosis. Her only positive result was a single Heartworm test in 2022 (followed by a negative scan). All tests since arriving at the rescue have been negative.
Sheyla has waited so long and has never given up. She still greets the people she trusts with the same wag of her tail and the same soulful eyes that say, “please pick me.” She is ready to give her heart to someone who will show her love, safety, and belonging for the very first time.
If you can offer Sheyla the peaceful, understanding forever home she has been dreaming of, please get in touch. She will rescue you just as much as you rescue her.
