Vodka
Vodka is an absolute heartbreaker who came to us from a breeder, ready for a second chance at life. She arrived a few months ago and was briefly adopted, but unfortunately, the home wasn’t the right fit. She had some difficulties with the resident dog, including resource guarding and a few disagreements, and on occasion, she nipped. These experiences highlighted that Vodka will need a very calm, adult-only home with experienced adopters who understand ex-breeding dogs and can give her the patience, reassurance, and guidance she deserves. She will also be looking for a home as the only dog in the home as she doesn't want to share her home with another dog.
Since returning to the rescue, Vodka has settled back in beautifully, she has been easy to handle, playful, and affectionate, showing no signs of nipping or stress. She is happiest when she feels safe and supported, so she would do best in a quiet, adult only household where she can settle at her own pace.
Vodka is a worried little soul, but also incredibly gentle and loving. She has been making wonderful progress with her harness training. Once she’s out of the rescue and on the road, she walks beautifully and enjoys taking in all the sights and smells around her. Within the rescue environment, she can still find things a little overwhelming at times, but with gentle reassurance and routine, she’s becoming more confident every day.
Although Vodka had never lived in a home before her brief adoption, she was settling in well, learning about house training, and gradually gaining confidence.
When she arrived, Vodka was in quite poor condition. She has been treated for dermatitis and mange, and her sore ears are improving. She also has dry eyes and scarring over most of her left cornea, meaning she likely has limited to no vision in that eye, and has been treated for conjunctivitis in both eyes and an active ulcer in her left eye. Currently, the vets are investigating to see whether this will need long-term treatment. Additionally, she has slightly abducted hind legs that will need monitoring. Despite all she has been through, Vodka remains a bright, affectionate little lady who is full of love and ready to blossom.
Vodka is a truly special girl who deserves a home filled with patience, kindness, and comfort. With the right family to guide her and share in her journey, she will make an utterly devoted and loving companion.
