Evan
This very handsome boy is Evan, and he’s searching for his forever home. Evan came to us from a breeder and, while he is a truly wonderful dog at heart, he does have some quirks that mean he’s looking for a specific kind of family who can help him continue the fantastic progress he has already made.
Evan has recently moved to a foster home, where he has settled in well and is experiencing life in a home environment for the first time. He absolutely adores his people, especially women, and with those he knows and trusts he greets them with a waggy tail, a happy face and affection. He thrives on positive interaction and is just as happy with verbal praise and cuddles as he is with a tasty treat.
With new people, Evan can be a little reserved at first and he has previously shown some uncertainty around men. Because of this, we’ve been working hard to gently and positively introduce him to more male staff and volunteers. He's enjoyed many walks with one of our regular male volunteers and his circle of trusted friends is steadily growing. Once he builds that bond of trust, Evan gives his whole heart and absolutely thrives, showing that patience and consistency are the keys to unlocking his very best self.
Evan is a typical velcro dog who forms very strong bonds with his main carer. When he first arrived in foster he worried that his humans might disappear and found it difficult when doors were closed between them, which led to some crying and stress-peeing. However, with reassurance and boundaries in place he has made brilliant progress. He now understands his people always come back. He is clean and dry overnight, and accidents have become few and far between. He can still be a little clingy and will need continued gentle guidance as he settles into home life.
He has shown some guarding behaviour when feeling worried, particularly around his favourite person, but this has improved greatly with reassurance, structure and positive training. Evan doesn’t have a bad bone in his body, but because of the way he expresses himself when insecure, he will need experienced and patient adopters who understand dog behaviour and will always reassure rather than reprimand him.
Evan is a high-energy boy who loves to play with toys and other dogs. He would make a wonderful hiking or running companion and would happily spend the day out adventuring before curling up for cuddles in the evening. He walks nicely on lead, travels brilliantly in the car, enjoys enclosed fields, and is already showing great recall and training response.
Evan would be happiest living with a calm resident female dog (or dogs) who can help build his confidence. He does not want to live with male dogs but is happy to meet them out and about on walks. He is currently living with a group of female dogs and enjoys playing and sharing beds, toys and resources with them.
Evan would love a home where his people are around for the majority of the time. He would be well suited to an active outdoor lifestyle, and will need adopters who are committed to continuing his training using positive, reward-based methods. Experience with his breed or similar breeds would be very beneficial.
Evan has so much love to give and in the right home we know he will blossom into the most loyal and devoted companion. The bond he will form with his person will be truly one of a kind.
Evan has a travel document.
