Onyx
Onyx has come such a long way since she first arrived with us from a breeder. Once a timid girl who preferred to observe the world around her quietly, she has slowly discovered that life can be full of gentle joy and loving company. This sweet, soft-natured girl has blossomed into a dog who will now approach for a gentle fuss before running off again.
Onyx has recently moved into a foster home, where she is experiencing home life for the first time and has settled in beautifully. She is becoming a more inquisitive little girl, which has been lovely to see, although she remains nervous by nature. While she is curious, she can be hesitant around people and will sometimes avoid close interaction until she feels safe.
She is beginning to learn about house training but will need continued patience and support, particularly when it comes to going outside in cold or wet weather. Onyx is also very much a beginner with walking on a lead and wearing a harness, which she currently finds worrying, and she will need gentle, ongoing practice as her confidence grows.
Onyx gets along well with other dogs, both male and female, and truly thrives in the company of kind, confident canine friends. She will need at least one resident dog in her new home to provide companionship and reassurance. She does not like sharing her food with other dogs and can guard toys or non-edible chews, so management and guidance will be important in these situations.
She can show signs of separation anxiety, and may display destructive behaviour when unsettled or left alone. For this reason, she is looking for a calm, quiet home with patient adopters who are committed to working through these challenges with her. Ongoing behavioural support is strongly recommended. Onyx would be best suited to an adult-only home, as children can be overwhelming for her. She can be touch sensitive - If she is pushed out of her comfort zone, startled or grabbed, she has the potential to react in a negative way, so it is very important her adopters are experienced, patient and understanding.
During her spay, Onyx had 15 teeth removed and is now enjoying a soft food diet. She has been treated for a gum infection and cystic lumps near one of her mammary glands and is recovering very well. She has also undergone further surgery to remove a lump from her right eyelid and pea-sized cysts on both her right and left sides. After everything she has been through, Onyx is finally starting to believe that the world can be a kind place; she just needs someone special to continue showing her that this is true.
Onyx has a travel document.
