  • Out and about requirements

I’d enjoy one or two quiet walks a day and plenty of play time.

  • Training needs

I walk well on the lead but will need help with housetraining.

  • Medical issues

I am being treated for conjunctivitis and have bilateral entropion.

Canelo is a fantastic Chow Chow who has come to us from his breeder in Ireland, and he’s already starting to melt hearts. True to his breed, you might expect him to be reserved, but Canelo has surprised us all. While initially a little cautious, it didn’t take long for him to let his guard down and enjoy some gentle fuss and affection. His confidence is growing more and more each day and he has become a firm favourite among staff.

Once he gets to know you, he loves nothing more than a good cuddle and if you sit down he will be right by your side asking for some love and attention. He is a truly wonderful, well mannered boy and it's so sad to see him still waiting in kennels.

He has now grown in confidence so much, that we would consider homing him as an only dog in the right circumstances as long as his adopter was around most of the time and had plenty of time to spend with him. He would also be happy to share his home with another kind resident dog. Although he hasn’t lived in a home before, he walks impressively well on the lead and is eager to learn. He’ll just need a little guidance with house training as he settles into home life. He has met cats fine and we would consider homing him with dog-savvy cats who respect his space.

Canelo is looking for a loving home, ideally with adopters who have experience with the breed and understand the unique needs and charm of a Chow Chow. He has been around children and so we would consider homing him with dog savvy, gentle teenagers.

With his calm nature and stunning good looks, Canelo has all the makings of a loyal and loving companion. He’s ready to start the next chapter of his life and we can’t wait to see him flourish.

He has arrived with conjunctivitis in both eyes, which he is receiving treatment for and also has bilateral entropions which our vets have repaired.

He has a travel document.
