Opal
10-08-25 Opal is one of several dogs rescued from a home in heartbreaking conditions. Their elderly owner, struggling with mental health issues, was overwhelmed, and the home had become dirty and unmanageable. Though not intentionally mistreated, the dogs went without proper care. Now safe with us, they're finally experiencing love and stability.
Opal is a beautiful senior girl, who at our best guess is around 10 years old. She has arrived with us in a very sad state and sadly she is completely blind. However, this brave girl doesn’t let that hold her back and she gets around well and adapts quickly to her surroundings.
She arrived with very sore skin and fur loss, which she is having medicated baths for, as well as a few mammary lumps. She was already missing several teeth and suffering from periodontal disease and our vets have since removed a further five to keep her comfortable. Due to her health, our vets felt it was in her best interests not to spay her and to leave any mammary lumps alone. Any potential adopter will need to sign a disclaimer confirming they understand this and will ensure she does not mix with uncastrated males. Opal has a micro eye and is completely blind in the right eye and is being treated for conjunctivitis.
Despite everything she’s been through, she is a gentle little angel with the softest heart, and she is now desperately in need of love, comfort, and kindness. She is a very sweet little girl who is happy to receive gentle fuss and attention.
She has always lived with other dogs and will need a kind resident dog in her new home to help guide her and be her companion. She draws comfort from other dogs and will blossom with a friend by her side.
Opal has lived in a home before, but it’s unlikely she is house trained, so her new family will need to be patient and understanding as she learns. She also doesn’t know how to walk on a lead, so will need gentle encouragement and time to build her confidence.
Opal is looking for a very special home, one where she will be cherished for the rest of her life and want for nothing. If you think you can offer this brave, beautiful girl the peaceful retirement she deserves, please don't leave her waiting. Opal has had a tough time and she truly deserves the world.
