I may be deaf and have limited vision, but this doesn't slow me down!

Chess was born here at Many Tears after we rescued his beautiful mum, Ember (a poodle cross). From day one, I was part of his little world. A few of us shared the care of the four pups during their first week and a half, but then I took over completely – feeding, cleaning, loving, snuggling. Raising Chess and his siblings became my whole world, and Chess… well, he stole my heart completely. He’s a very special boy. I believe Chess is deaf, and he has limited vision too – though I’ve noticed he seems to catch movement now and then or sense a sudden vibration when something loud happens nearby. But despite these challenges, he moves through the world with this quiet, magical confidence. And oh, his eyes – pale blue and full of softness. When he looks up at me with those eyes, I’m done for.

There’s just something about him. He’s a snuggler. A proper comfort-seeker. He loves soft blankies and warm spots, and he absolutely melts into your arms when he’s tired. His preference seems to be to snuggle on your shoulder, just under your chin. He’s calm and gentle in the bath, lying back as I dry his little tummy like it’s the most natural thing in the world. He’s happiest when he’s close – to me, his siblings, or one of my dogs. He especially adores my little pom cross, and I know he needs a gentle resident dog in his forever home – someone to play with, learn from, and feel safe beside. He’s got a soft soul, but don’t let that fool you – he’s got a cheeky streak too! He’s easily led into mischief by his siblings. Somehow, he senses who the troublemakers are and wants in on it – including tugging on my socks just to make sure I know he’s involved. It makes me laugh every time. He might not be loud, but he’s definitely got.

personality.

He plays kindly, and if things get too boisterous, he’ll give a little growl to let them know he’s had enough. He’s not like his sister Una, who is a total madam (in the best way!) – Chess is much more gentle, more thoughtful. He loves to run and explore, but never goes far – he always checks back to see if I’m near. He’s a proper mammy’s boy, and honestly, I love him even more for it. And food? He’s got that down. He knows exactly when meals are due and licks his chops as if he’s waited a lifetime. I’ve been really careful about what and how much he eats, and I’d love to see his new family continue that – structure, love, and a good routine will help him flourish. More than anything, I want his forever family to understand how special he is. Chess needs someone who sees his differences as part of his charm, not as limitations. Someone who will commit to guiding him with patience and love. He’s going to need continued training, kindness, and gentle boundaries – but if you give him that, he’ll give you the kind of love that stays with you forever. Most importantly his new family will need to have experience of deaf and blind dogs. He’s my little shadow, my sock thief, my snuggle bug, my soft blue-eyed boy. Letting him go won’t be easy… but I know the right person is out there, someone who’ll see him for the gentle, magical soul he truly is.

Chess' adopters will need to have him neutered when he is old enough and commit to enrolling him in puppy training and socialization classes to help him grow into a well-rounded adult dog.

With love,

Chess’ Foster Mammy
