Ember
When Ember first came to us from a breeder, she was a frightened and timid girl, completely overwhelmed by the big, uncertain world around her. Everything was new and scary, the sights, the sounds, even the feeling of a gentle hand. She tried so hard to be brave, army crawling over for a little fuss before retreating again, not quite sure if she could trust that kindness was real. Her vulnerability and sweetness tugged at every heart that met her.
But oh, what a difference time and love can make.
Now, after spending a few weeks on our section, Ember’s spark is truly beginning to glow. She’s still a gentle soul, but that frightened little dog is slowly giving way to an affectionate, trusting girl who greets us each day with a wagging tail and soft kisses. She’s learning that humans can be her friends, that fusses feel wonderful and that love is something to lean into, not fear.
Every time we stop stroking her, Ember edges closer, asking for just a little more. It’s the sweetest thing to see. She has learned how to walk on a harness, too, something she picked up far more quickly than we expected! She’s not perfect yet, but she’s so proud of herself and absolutely loves her daily visits to the secure yard, where her confidence grows a little more each day.
Ember still finds great comfort in the company of other dogs and will need at least one kind, confident canine companion in her forever home, someone who can help guide her and show her that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. She’s looking for a calm, quiet, adult-only home where she can continue to blossom at her own pace, surrounded by patience, reassurance, and love.
Our vets have noted that Ember has cataracts developing in both eyes, which will need to be monitored. She previously had two mammary lumps removed during her spay and has some mild lip fold dermatitis, but she takes everything in her stride. She has recently had a second surgery to remove two mammary lumps on the right side.
The way Ember looks at you with her soulful, loving eyes is like no other, she radiates warmth, gentleness, and a quiet strength that is deeply moving. She’s an incredibly special girl who’s come so far, and with the right family by her side, she’s ready to shine even brighter.
