Omiara’s journey began in heartbreaking circumstances. She was one of several dogs rescued from a home that had become unmanageable for its elderly owner, who was struggling with mental health difficulties. Though never intentionally mistreated, the dogs went without the proper care they so desperately needed. When Omiara arrived with us, she was in extremely poor condition, underweight, with infected ears, and in urgent need of dental care, which resulted in the removal of 21 teeth. She has been seen the vets for a limp on the left front leg. They were unable to determine a cause and she was prescribed light inflammatory medication, and is feeling better although this may need to be monitored. Despite this difficult start, Omiara has shown incredible resilience, and she is now safe, healthy, and learning what love and stability truly mean.

This gentle girl has a soft, sweet nature and a quiet bravery that continues to shine more each day. Though she was initially timid and would often retreat from new people, she has made remarkable progress with patience and reassurance. Omiara now seeks attention, enjoys fusses, and happily stays close, no longer shrinking away when someone moves near her. Her confidence is blossoming, and every small step forward is a testament to her courage and trust.

Omiara has now been in foster for nine weeks and recently enjoyed a lovely week in Dorset, exploring new places and scents. She proved to be perfectly behaved everywhere, from cafes and pubs to eateries, showing just how well she adapts when given gentle guidance. She walks beautifully on the lead, has excellent recall, and happily attracts and enjoys attention from everyone she meets.

At home, Omiara is clean and conscientious, going to the door when she needs to be let out. She sleeps downstairs by choice and will happily use any dog bed available. She is adaptable in her relationships, happy as an only dog or alongside one or two resident dogs, and is also fine with cats.

Because of her background, Omiara will still benefit from a calm, patient environment where she can continue to build confidence. She would thrive in a quiet home, ideally with adults or older teenagers. She has met children, but finds them quite overwhelming. She will need a very secure garden where she can explore safely at her own pace.

For the right adopter, someone patient, gentle, and understanding of her cautious nature, Omiara will offer unwavering loyalty, affection, and companionship. She may never be the boldest of dogs, but in the right hands, she will blossom into a devoted, loving best friend. Omiara is a truly special girl who has already come so far, and she deserves a forever home where her gentle spirit can continue to flourish.
