02-09-25 Ozzie is a gentle giant who came to us from very sad circumstances, after being rescued with several other dogs from a home where their elderly owner could no longer cope. Though not intentionally mistreated, the dogs had gone without proper care for a long time, and arriving with us was the start of Ozzie’s new life filled with love, kindness, and stability.

We believe Ozzie is a Newfoundland cross, possibly with Welsh Sheepdog, and he really is a handsome, majestic boy. When he first arrived he was very underweight, shy, and unsure of himself, but with time and care he has blossomed into a much more confident dog. He now greets those he knows with great excitement, loves fuss, and enjoys being close to people. His playful side is beginning to shine too, especially when other dogs initiate it. He is wonderfully gentle with his kennel friends, and shares his toys and beds with them.

Ozzie walks really nicely on the lead now, although, he can still be nervous in busier areas, like near reception where there’s more going on, but with reassurance he manages well and will continue to grow in confidence. Because of his size, he will need a very secure garden with high fencing.

He will need a calm and patient home where life moves at a gentle pace, and we now feel he could live with older, dog-savvy children. A kind resident dog will still be important to help guide him as he continues to learn about the world, grow in confidence, and understand what it means to be part of a family.

When Ozzie first arrived he had infected ears, inflamed gums, and a UTI, all of which have been treated. Blood tests have shown that he has some kidney damage, most likely caused by a previous infection. There is no live infection present now, but he will need a supportive lifestyle going forward to help protect his kidneys and keep him healthy. He also has some epulis all over his gums, but these are not inflamed.

Ozzie is a very special boy who has already come so far. In the right home, with patience and love, he will continue to thrive and show what a wonderful, loyal, and gentle companion he can be. Please don’t let him wait too long.
