Denise is a beautiful, sensitive girl who has come to us from a breeder and is still very unsure about this big new world. When she arrived, she was very shut down, but since then she has made so much progress with us. She was adopted very briefly, but unfortunately it wasn’t a great match with the resident dog, so the decision was made for her to come back to the rescue. She’s settled back into her routine really well and we’ll keep working with her every day until she finds her forever home.

Denise will be looking for a calm and quiet, adult only home with adopters who have experience with worried ex-breeding dogs and who will allow her to settle in at her own pace. Although she has made great progress, she won’t approach you for a fuss yet, but she will stay still in the back of her kennel to have a gentle tickle under her ears. She is still quite worried about being handled, but she is gradually getting more and more used to this. She’s not the biggest fan of being groomed, but she has allowed us to bath and shave her multiple times and she always turns out absolutely beautiful.

She is a very worried little soul who finds comfort and security in the company of other dogs. For this reason, she absolutely needs a home with at least one other kind, confident resident dog who will let her cuddle close, show her the ropes, and help her understand that life can be safe and happy. She can sometimes be a little bossy with other dogs, so would be best matched with a calm and laid back dog and owners who have experience with similar behaviours and are happy to manage this as she settles in and finds her place. She shares her kennel with a couple of other dogs and really loves to snuggle up with them. She can be a little growly over food when it comes to breakfast and dinner time, but it’s always just been vocal and she’s never gone any further, though it would be best to feed her separately.

Denise has now learned to walk on a lead and harness, and although still scared in busier places, she will walk well in quiet areas if she’s with a doggy friend. Like many dogs from her background, she has never lived in a home before, so house training and all the basics will need to be taught slowly, with the support of her canine friends to guide her. Her previous adopters did say that she only had two accidents with them, so she should pick up house training well. She has started to learn about playing and loves toys and always takes them into her bed to play with in her kennel, and she loves treats too.

Denise is a very sweet girl and with time, love and lots of TLC, we think she will blossom into the girl she should have always had the chance to be.
