Ottawa, affectionately known as Ottie, originally came to us as part of a large rescue from a home where her elderly owner, struggling with mental health challenges, could no longer provide her the care she deserved. She was briefly adopted but sadly returned after just a day, as she was bigger than expected and a little too enthusiastic in her attempts to soak up attention. Ottie is a big, loving girl who simply wants to be close to her people, and she deserves a home that understands large breeds and appreciates that this beautiful lady just wants to be your very best friend.

Ottie has now been with us for around five months and she truly is a giant, floofy superstar. She has settled beautifully into her foster home, gaining weight and confidence, and has jumped right back into routine. Her calm, friendly nature continues to blossom, and she has plenty of energy to enjoy her walks, explore new places, and meet as many new friends—both human and canine—as possible along the way. In secure areas, she has fantastic recall, and like most dogs, she absolutely loves her snacks. She has even walked calmly through fields of horses, cows, and sheep without a care.

Ottie gets on wonderfully with all of our dogs, and while she enjoys the company of others, she remains very people-focused. She can sometimes nudge her way in for attention—not out of malice, but simply because she has a big heart and adores cuddles. She is a true cuddle monster: soft, affectionate, and wonderfully soppy, greeting everyone she meets with slobbery kisses and gentle nose boops that are pure Newfoundland cross charm. She has had visiting children in her foster home and has been beautifully gentle, so she would be best suited to a home with older children aged 8+ who understand her size and affectionate nature.

At home, Ottie enjoys sleeping in the bedroom at night and is completely clean in the house. She loves relaxing on a comfy bed or duvet, soaking up affection and belly rubs, and she is especially loving towards our Labrador, whom she regularly keeps clean with plenty of giant face licks. Although she is a senior girl, she still has a playful sparkle and enjoys being around younger, energetic dogs, even if she doesn’t always join in their games.

Out and about, Ottie enjoys her walks and exploring open, secure spaces where she can sniff, wander, and mooch at her own pace. She will need a secure garden where she can continue to build confidence and enjoy outdoor time safely.

Ottie arrived underweight and was lacking the love and attention every dog deserves. She is currently receiving treatment for an ear infection in her right ear, but she remains calm, sweet, and trusting as she continues her recovery.

Ottie truly deserves the world. She is gentle, affectionate, playful, and full of love to give. With the right family, she will be a loyal, devoted, oversized best friend who fills a home with warmth, laughter, and slobbery kisses.
