Marley is a handsome older gentleman who has spent his life with a breeder and had never known the comfort of a real home until now. In his later years, he deserves nothing more than a gentle retirement filled with peace, kindness, and love – and it’s been such a joy to watch him slowly discover what that might feel like.

When he first arrived, Marley was shy and unsure, but over the weeks he has begun to blossom. Each morning he greets his carers with a happily wagging tail, and although he can still be a little hand shy, once you crouch down and approach him gently, he truly enjoys a quiet fuss and will lean into the affection. He has the softest soul, and with patience he will continue to grow in confidence.

Marley relies heavily on the company of kind female dogs. He is currently sharing his kennel with two gentle girls, and it is wonderful to watch him copy everything they do, from playing with toys to curling up for a nap. For this reason, Marley will need a home with at least one kind resident female dog to guide him and help him feel safe. He cannot live with males, but with the right female companion by his side, he really comes into his own. He has met cats at the rescue fine, so maybe be able to live with a dog savvy cat.

Like so many who come from a breeding background, Marley has never lived inside a home before, so he will need patient adopters to help him learn about house training, lead walking, and all the routines of family life. He tries very hard to keep his kennel clean, so we believe he will pick up house training quickly once in a home.

Marley does walk on a lead and will benefit from gentle, short walks to build up his strength and to help him gradually return to a healthier weight. He really enjoys his walks and has even started to go for walks with some of our volunteers.

Marley arrived with an ear infection and is currently receiving treatment and investigation for further treatment and he will require joint medication twice daily for the rest of his life. He is also missing several teeth, so will need a little extra care with his diet, but he manages well and enjoys his food.

This lovely, soulful boy has already given so much of his life and now longs for someone to give him what he has never had: a warm bed, a kind hand, and a place to call home. Marley truly deserves a cosy retirement full of love, and we hope that he won’t be waiting too much longer. Whoever opens their heart to him will be rewarded with the gentlest, most loyal of companions.
