  • Human family requirements

I need an experienced adult-only home where I can learn humans aren't all that bad.

  • Other pet requirements

I need a resident dog to help me feel safe but I haven’t met cats yet so I'm not sure

  • House and garden requirements

I’m frightened and will need an extra secure garden and home.

  • Out and about requirements

Walks are too scary for me yet, maybe some slow garden sniffs will be a good start.

  • Training needs

Please be patient with me, I need to learn lead walking and house manners.

  • Medical issues

I’ve started my vaccinations and will be spayed before adoption.

Elkie originally came to us from a breeder in Ireland, completely overwhelmed by the world around her. When Elkie first arrived, her fear was so great that she would curl up at the very back of her kennel, trying to make herself invisible, trembling at the thought of human interaction. Our hearts broke for her, such a young dog already carrying such heavy fear.

But with time, love, and patience, Elkie has started to show us just how brave she really is. Now, when you step into her kennel, she no longer runs to hide. Instead, she takes those precious steps forward, looks up with her soft eyes, and even offers the gentlest little kiss on your hand. That tiny kiss is her way of saying, “I’m trying… I want to trust you.” It’s impossible not to shed a tear when you see how far she has come.

Elkie still leans heavily on her kennel friends for guidance and comfort, so she will absolutely need a kind, confident resident dog in her forever home to show her the ropes and help her continue her journey. With their example, and the patience of a loving family, Elkie will learn that life isn’t so scary after all.

Like many of our dogs, she has never lived in a home before. She will need patient adopters to teach her about house training, harness training, and all the basics of home life. But with her gentle spirit and her growing bravery, we know she will blossom beautifully in the right home.

Elkie has already shown us that behind her shyness lies the sweetest, most tender heart. She deserves to break free from kennels and discover what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and truly loved.

If you have the patience, the kindness, and a doggy role model waiting at home, please consider opening your heart to Elkie. She has already taken the first brave steps, now she just needs someone to walk the rest of the journey with her.

She has a PETS travel document.
