Crispin
09-07-26 Crispin originally came to us from a breeder last October. He was adopted for a few months but has come back into our care after his adopters sadly realised they were not the right match for him. Although they gave him every opportunity to settle, Crispin remained very worried whenever the male in the household was home and simply couldn't relax in his company.
Crispin is a dear little boy who can still be worried and unsure at times. It is clear that he had very little socialisation in the past, and although he has made lovely progress since living in a home, he still needs patient adopters who understand that building trust takes time. He can be touch-sensitive when he is feeling anxious, so gentle handling and allowing him to approach in his own time will help him continue to gain confidence.
Crispin will be best suited to adopters who understand the needs of scared ex-breeding dogs and who will give him all the time he needs to settle at his own pace. He would be happy to share his home with another kind and confident resident dog in his new home. However, in the right home, with owners who are around enough to reassure him and who have experience with ex-breeding dogs, he could also be the only dog in the home.
One thing Crispin has discovered is just how much he loves going for walks! He gets wonderfully excited when it's time to head out, twirling around and eagerly waiting by the front door. Once out, he walks beautifully on a lead, is very sociable with other dogs he meets, enjoys exploring new places, and travels well in the car. Walking has become one of his favourite activities and is a lovely way to watch his confidence shine through.
As Crispin has now experienced life in a home, he has become familiar with many of the sights and sounds of everyday living. However, he hasn't quite mastered house training yet, so his adopters will need to continue helping him learn with patience, consistency, and plenty of encouragement.
Crispin has also shown that he forms incredibly strong bonds with his favourite person. He loves to be close by and wants to be involved in everything they are doing. Because of this, he showed signs of separation anxiety in his previous home when left for more than a couple of hours. His ideal home would therefore be one where someone is around for most of the day, and where any time left alone can be built up very gradually, helping him feel safe and secure.
Crispin has a cataract in his right eye and is developing a cataract in his left eye. He has had dental work and unfortunately did need to have all of his teeth removed, so he will need to stay on a soft diet for the rest of his life. He has Grade 2 patella luxation in both hind legs, although this may continue to improve with gentle exercise as he builds muscle.
Crispin is a gentle soul who has had a difficult start in life, but he has already shown that, with kindness and patience, he is capable of making wonderful progress. He is looking for a very special person who will understand his worries, celebrate his achievements, and enjoy watching him continue to blossom into the loyal and loving companion we know he can be.
Crispin has a travel document, which says he is 7 years old, but we do feel he could be a little older than this.
