Avril has come to us from her breeder in need of a fresh start, carrying the kind of quiet uncertainty that comes from not knowing much of the world outside a kennel. In those early days, she relied heavily on her kennel friends for courage, trembling softly as she allowed us to pick her up, her relief almost palpable when her little paws touched the ground again.

But time, patience, and kindness have begun to work their magic.

Avril is now living in a foster home where she is learning all the basics, such as lead training, house training, and all the usual sights and sounds of a home environment, which will all be new for her. But with a little guidance, patience, and a pocket of treats, training is going well. Her house training is coming along steadily, and she is currently going through the nights with no accidents. Avril is a secret foodie and is highly motivated by snacks.

Avril has made wonderful progress medically. She has now been spayed, her ears and teeth have been checked, and her tiny mammary lump has been examined. The vets have advised that it is so small it does not require any treatment. Her low-grade luxating patella is not currently affecting her, so no intervention is needed.

This special girl still leans on the reassurance of her canine companions and will need a kind, confident resident dog in her new home to help her feel secure as she blossoms. She can live with dog-savvy children who understand gentle boundaries would also be a lovely addition to her world. She is in foster with a cat and so could potentially be homed with a dog savvy cat.

Avril may start out as a fragile little flower, but with love, patience, and the right canine friend, she will continue to unfurl, softly, quietly, beautifully, into the bright, loving companion she is meant to be.
