Violet has come to us from a breeder to find her forever home. When she first arrived she was a very scared little girl who was completely overwhelmed to find herself here and was in need of lots of love and TLC. She found human hands very worrying and clearly hadn't had much handling or socialisation. Since then she has made progress and started to approach her kennel mum for treats and allowed a gentle fuss, but was still extremely worried about this.

She has recently moved to a foster home, where she is settling in very well. She is still very unsure of humans, but is an inquisitive girl who will follow her fosterer around and is happy to take food and treats from her. She is worried by quick movement and does initially run away, but if you approach her slowly she is easy to handle and will let you gently stroke her. She is still quite sensitive to touch, so this is something her adopters will need to continue to work on with her.

Violet will be looking for a calm and quiet home and would benefit from having adopters who have experience with scared ex-breeding dogs. She will need to have at least one other kind and confident resident dog in her new home to take her under their wing and to help her learn about her new life. Violet loves to cuddle up close with her friends and really relies on them for support and tries her best to be brave when they are around. She is in foster with a cat and absolutely fine with her, so could be homed with a dog savvy cat.

She had never lived in a home before moving to her foster home, so she is starting to learn all about home life for the first time. She has taken it all in her stride and has so far been clean in the house, choosing to do her toileting in the garden. She sleeps quietly overnight in the kitchen with the other dogs and is fine to be left home alone for a few hours as long as she is with her doggy friends. Violet is starting to learn all about walking on a lead and harness, but this is very new to her and she will need more practice in quiet areas to boost her confidence.

When Violet was at the rescue, she would sometimes bark out of fear and occasionally show her teeth or air-nip as a warning. She has never made contact, and encouragingly, this behaviour has not been seen in her foster home.

With lots of love, kindness and patient, she will start to leave her past behind her and we think she will blossom into a wonderful friend.
