Auburn
Auburn came to us from a breeder to begin her journey toward the loving forever home she so deserves. When she first arrived, she was a very scared little girl who found the sudden change to a new and unfamiliar environment extremely overwhelming. With very little previous socialisation, Auburn initially found human interaction quite worrying and needed plenty of time, patience, and gentle reassurance to begin settling.
Over the past couple of weeks, Auburn has been learning all about kindness and how to relax around people. She has made lovely progress in this time and has gained a noticeable amount of confidence. While she is still unsure about being touched, she is now much more comfortable in our presence and will often choose to sit quite close by when we are on the floor with her – especially if food is involved! She has discovered a real love of her food, which has helped her gain some much-needed condition and has been a wonderful way to begin building her trust. We are also starting to see little glimpses of a cheeky personality beginning to emerge as she settles.
Auburn will need a calm, adult-only home with adopters who have experience with nervous ex-breeding dogs. She draws a great deal of comfort and confidence from her kennel friends, so she will need at least one kind, confident resident dog in her new home who can support her, cuddle up with her, and help her feel safe as she continues to navigate the world.
As Auburn has never lived in a home before, everything will be completely new to her. Her adopters will need to be patient and understanding as she learns about home life, including house training and walking on a harness and lead. This will need to start gently, with practice around the garden until she feels brave enough to venture further. She may feel overwhelmed when she first goes home, but with consistency, reassurance, and the presence of a supportive canine companion, we believe she will continue to progress well and may even blossom more quickly once settled into a home environment.
Auburn has had scabby skin, which is currently being managed with medicated baths. She has also had four teeth extracted at the time of her spay. She was seen by our vets for suspected dry eye; however, testing has come back within normal limits.
With love, patience, and a gentle approach, Auburn will continue to grow in confidence and show the wonderful little dog she is becoming. She just needs someone willing to open their heart, understand her worries, and give her the time she needs to truly shine.
