Victoria, affectionately known as Beanie, is a truly special little Cavalier with the sweetest nature and the most endearing way of experiencing the world.

Victoria doesn’t see life quite the same way as other puppies, and that’s part of what makes her so unique. She has a congenital difference in how her brain has developed, which means her coordination and vision aren’t quite typical. She has very limited sight and can be a little wobbly at times, often bumping gently into things as she explores. Despite this, she gets around in her own way and is learning more about her surroundings every day.

Her personality absolutely shines through. When she's used to you Victoria shows her excitement with quirky, bouncy little movements that are impossible not to smile at. She interacts in her own adorable way, and once she feels safe, her sweet and affectionate nature really comes through. She can be a little unsure of hands at first, but with gentle, patient handling she is already gaining confidence and beginning to trust.

Victoria has been assessed by a specialist for her neurological differences. Following examination, it is thought most likely that part of her brain has not developed fully, rather than this being a progressive condition.

Victoria will need a very understanding and committed home that can embrace her differences and help her feel safe. A calm environment where things are kept consistent will really help her thrive. Because of her limited vision and coordination, her home will need to be set up with her safety in mind, avoiding hazards and giving her space to learn her surroundings at her own pace.

She would be best suited to an adult-only home, or one with older teenaged children, as she can be easily startled. Visiting older, calm children would be fine, but her day-to-day environment should be quiet and predictable. She could happily live with small, very gentle dogs who would tolerate a puppy that may not always behave as expected, but she would not cope well with boisterous companions.

Victoria is happy wearing a harness and lead and will walk, but her absolute favourite way to explore the world is being carried out in her little bag, where she can feel safe while taking everything in around her.

She also has a small underdeveloped right eye which may eventually need removal, and while her left eye works, her brain doesn’t always process what she sees clearly. This means extra care is needed to protect her from bumps and knocks, especially to her eyes.

At the moment, Victoria is stable and enjoying life as a happy little puppy. There is some uncertainty about how her condition may change as she grows, so her adopters will need to be prepared for this and willing to work closely with their vet if needed.

What Victoria needs most is someone who sees how special she is, not for what she can’t do, but for the joy, love and uniqueness she brings. She may need a little extra support, but in return she will give so much back.
