17-03-26 Rosie is a very sweet Irish Red Setter who originally came to us from a breeder and was adopted into a family home, where she lived for a couple of years. Sadly, her owners made the difficult decision to return her to us as they felt she was too socially anxious. She will be looking for a home with rescue dog experience and would be best suited to a quieter or rural area and would find busy urban areas overwhelming.

Rosie is a beautiful and friendly girl. Although she was returned due to anxiety, she has settled back in well and appears calm and confident with the staff she knows. She already knows some basic commands such as “sit” and “paw” and is a clever, willing girl. When she is enjoying attention, she will gently paw you if you stop stroking her, which is her sweet way of asking for more affection. She has spent some of her time in the main office with our rehoming team, and loves nothing more than receiving attention and just being close to someone.

At heart, Rosie loves nothing more than to relax. She may have a brief burst of play or a quick 30-second zoomie, and then she is very happy to chill out again.

Rosie gets on wonderfully with her kennel friends and takes comfort from their company, so she will need a kind and steady resident dog in her new home to help guide her and provide reassurance as she settles back into family life.

As Rosie has previously lived in a home, she is familiar with household sights and sounds. We are told she is house trained. However, she does struggle with social anxiety when out and about. On walks, she is very aware of her surroundings, often looking ahead and even around corners. She can spot a stranger from far away and will go on high alert until they are out of sight. If someone is walking behind her, particularly a man, she may spin, try to run away, or drop to the ground. She is slightly more comfortable with women and may have a quick sniff as they pass and she can be uncomfortable accepting a fuss from strangers and just wants to get home where she felt safe.

On the lead, Rosie can pull strongly and may surge forward, as she often just wants to get back home, which she sees as her safe place. She will need experienced adopters who understand anxious dogs, are physically able to manage her on lead, and are committed to helping her build confidence gradually through positive training and careful management.

Rosie could share her home with dog-savvy teenagers who understand she will need a gentle, quiet introduction and her own space to relax. She has previously lived happily alongside teenagers and has passed cats fine in the neighbourhood.

Rosie is a loving and loyal girl who forms strong bonds with her people. In a calm, understanding home that respects her sensitivities and helps her feel safe, she will be a deeply devoted and affectionate companion.

Rosie has been treated for bilateral conjunctivitis by our vets.
