Grape came into our care from a breeder in search of a fresh start. When she first arrived, she was a very worried little girl who clearly hadn't experienced much human interaction and found the world an overwhelming place. Despite her fears, she always tried so hard to be brave, gently accepting strokes while she learned that people could be kind.

Size wise Grape weighs approximately 14.5 kg. She's a lovely medium-sized girl, around the size of a cocker spaniel.

Fast forward a few months, and Grape has come on in leaps and bounds. She still has a sensitive soul, but each day we see more of the happy, playful little girl she was always destined to be.

When Grape first arrived, her coat was dirty and badly matted, so her first groom was more of a fresh start than a pamper. Now that her beautiful curls have grown back, she recently enjoyed a proper makeover to show off what an adorable little teddy bear she really is. The bath was a little scary for her, but she coped brilliantly, and by the end she was a gorgeous fluffy princess, looking every bit as special as she is.

One of Grape's biggest achievements has been her growing confidence. She is now walking on a lead and is doing really well, although she isn't quite 100% confident yet, particularly with people she doesn't know well. With someone she trusts, she is making fantastic progress and continues to improve every day.

She absolutely adores other dogs and gets on wonderfully with every dog she meets. Their company gives her confidence, and because of this she will need a kind, confident resident dog in her new home to help guide and reassure her as she continues to settle into family life. We recently caught Grape playing for the very first time, doing joyful little bounces around a tennis ball. It may seem like a small thing, but for Grape it was a huge milestone and another step away from the life she once knew.

Although she's still a little nervous about human fuss, she now greets us every morning with a waggy tail and the sweetest smile. She's also a complete sucker for treats, making winning her over much easier! She is still learning about life in a home, so her new family will need to continue her house training, build her confidence, and help her discover all the joys of being a much-loved pet. A calm, patient home with adopters who understand ex-breeding dogs would suit her perfectly.

When Grape arrived she was a little overweight, but with a healthy diet and gentle exercise she has been making great progress. She has also been through quite a lot medically since arriving with us. She has been spayed, had two teeth extracted, undergone a hernia repair, and had a small cyst removed during her spay. Her hormonal alopecia should continue to improve following her spay, and she has also completed treatment for an ear infection.

We truly cannot understand why Grape has been overlooked for so long. She has blossomed into such a sweet, gentle little dog, and while she will need a family willing to continue building her confidence, the rewards of watching her flourish will be immeasurable.
