Chalkie
04-06-26 Chalkie is a sweet little guy, although he is currently feeling quite nervous and overwhelmed to find himself here. He can take a little time to warm up when first meeting new people and isn’t yet confident enough to take treats from us, but he does begin to relax quite quickly. He finds great comfort in cosy blankets and loves to curl up and relax, so we think he will truly enjoy all the comforts that home life has to offer. Beneath his initial nerves is a real little snuggle bug.
Chalkie gets on wonderfully with other dogs, so he would be happy to share his home with others. However, he is also showing a new confidence and we think that in the right home, he could be equally as happy being the only dog in the home too - as long as his adopters were around enough to keep him company.
Chalkie gets on wonderfully with his kennel friends and relies on their company for comfort, so he will need a kind and confident resident dog in his new home to help guide him and give him the reassurance he needs as he settles in and finds his paws.
As Chalkie has never lived in a home before, he will need to learn all about house training and the other basics of home life. He will benefit from a calm and patient approach while he adjusts. Chalkie can now walk confidently on a lead, so he would enjoy one or two walks around the local area when he is settled in.
Chalkie could share his home with older, dog-savvy teenagers who can appreciate and understand that he will need a gentle and quiet introduction to the home, along with his own space to settle in.
Chalkie is a gentle and sensitive little boy who just needs time, warmth, and reassurance. With the support of another dog and a loving home, he will soon settle in and show just how affectionate he truly is.
He has been treated for conjunctivitis and our vets have noted that he has a Grade 2 luxating patella in one hind leg and a Grade 3 luxating patella in the other hind leg. These may improve with gentle exercise and as he builds up muscle tone, but this is something his adopters and their vet will need to continue to monitor.
