Indie is a gentle, sensitive little Poodle who came into our care from a breeder in search of a fresh start. When she first arrived, people were very unfamiliar to her and she found handling quite worrying. Although she was always trying her best to be brave, she would often shy away from people and needed time to learn that the world wasn't such a scary place.

Since moving into foster, Indie has already made wonderful progress. Like many ex-breeding dogs, she initially found life in a home quite overwhelming. For the first few days she struggled to settle, pacing around the house and barking during the night. However, after about a week she began to relax, and she has now settled beautifully into her foster home, sleeping soundly through the night and becoming much more comfortable with everyday household life.

Each day her confidence continues to grow. Indie is naturally very curious and enjoys following her foster carer around the house to see what's happening, especially if there might be something tasty involved! She's a big foodie, happily takes treats from your hand and, although she can be a little fussy with her meals, she's found a food she absolutely loves.

She's also discovering how much fun life can be. Indie enjoys playing with toys and absolutely loved exploring a secure field, where her foster carer saw her playful personality really beginning to shine. She is making steady progress with lead training, although she still finds walking on a lead quite frightening, so her new family will need to continue building her confidence at her own pace.

Although Indie enjoys gentle strokes, she isn't quite brave enough to approach people asking for affection just yet. She prefers to be close to her people without too much physical contact and continues to become more comfortable as her trust grows.

Indie has done brilliantly with her toilet training and is now mostly reliable, following a routine and toileting outside consistently during the day, although does have a puppy pad out at night incase.

One thing that has remained constant throughout Indie's journey is just how much she relies on other dogs. She absolutely must have at least one kind, confident resident dog in her new home. Having another dog gives her reassurance, helps her understand home life and encourages her to be brave enough to try new things.

She has met both adult visitors and visiting children in foster and has coped well, remaining calm and happy to share their space, although she tends to not actively seek attention. She has met older children in her foster home, and we believe she could live with older, dog-savvy kids who are sensible and will allow her time to settle in.

Indie is currently living in foster with a cat, but she isn't comfortable around cats and prefers to avoid them, so she is looking for a cat-free home.

When left for short periods, Indie may be a little unsettled initially but settles again quickly. She can wear a harness and use a crate with gentle encouragement and reassurance, and although she can still be a little wary of handling, her confidence continues to improve every day.

Indie is looking for a calm, patient family who understand that confidence can't be rushed. She will need adopters who are happy to let her settle at her own pace, celebrate the little milestones and continue showing her that people can be kind.

She has already shown just how much she can blossom when she's given love, patience and understanding. We truly believe that, with the support of another dog and the right family beside her, Indie will continue to flourish into a wonderfully loyal and loving companion.
