21-07-26 We are so happy to be able to introduce you to Arthur!

Arthur is a gorgeous lurcher who arrived to us under tragic circumstances. We received a call from the police, who asked us to help, Arthur’s owner had passed away, leaving him alone in the house, for an unknown amount of time. We quickly arranged for him to be collected by our staff and got Arthur safely to the centre.

Upon arrival, it was clear that Arthur was suffering from heatstroke; it was peak heatwave, and we had no idea when he last had a drink. He could barely stand and was immensely stressed. He was immediately seen to by our vets and he was placed on a drip. His kidney values were not good, and we were preparing for the worst.

However, there was something about Arthur, a little sparkle in his eye that told us his journey wasn’t finished… and so began his recovery!

Many hours on a drip, his bloods improved, slowly but steadily. Each day we saw a glimpse of his wonderful personality come out, but he simply would not eat. He was syringe fed diligently through day and night, offered so many platters of food.. we just knew that while his bloods continued to improve, we just needed to find the one thing to tempt him.. and over 2 weeks later we cracked it, starting with one particular brand of finest ham (no he didn’t like the cheap versions!!). Over a few days, that developed into getting him to eat proper food, he has flourished since then.

Throughout this whole process, Arthur has been a beaming light of joy. He took absolutely everything in his stride; being poked and prodded, syringe fed, etc. and still he greeted us with happiness and tail wags every time we saw him.

Once Arthur was stable, he was taken into foster by a staff member, where again he has been the perfect gentleman. He is has been mostly chilled in the home, follows his fosterer everywhere and loves a cuddle on the sofa! He loves a ball and will occasionally play by himself, watching him throw a toy up the air and catch it is brilliant entertainment!

What Arthur loves most is his walks: he knows how handsome he is and wants to say hello to everyone! He can get a bit excited when he sees dogs or cats, but is very sweet about it and just wants to play. He walks wonderfully on the lead and isn’t strong. Arthur can live as an only dog, or with other gentle dogs (pending a meet and greet). He could also live with older, dog-savvy, gentle children. He is in foster with a cat who he is fine with, so may be able to be homed with a dog savvy cat.

Although Arthur has shown as an incredible recovery compared with how he arrived, his bloods do still show some kidney damage. This could be ongoing and he will need regular monitoring with an adopters vet to ensure he stays comfortable. Arthur also has a “wonky” gait and uneven hips, we think this could be due to a previous injury. His gait has improved during his time with us and we hope that this would continue to improve in the home with exercise. His adopters will need to be aware of these conditions as they may not be covered by insurance.

Arthur has become a firm favourite with all of us here at Many Tears and we cannot wait to give him the happily ever after he deserves.
