Carys is a very sweet, nervous girl who came into our care from a breeder. On arrival at Many Tears, she was understandably very unsure of her surroundings and would become submissive when approached while she worked out that she was safe. She was, however, easy to handle and clearly found comfort in the company of other dogs. She got on wonderfully with her kennel friends and relied on them for reassurance.

Carys has now moved into a wonderful foster home and is slowly beginning to discover the comforts of home life. When she first arrived, she spent much of her time hiding in the bushes, although she would allow her fosterer to approach, stroke her and pick her up to carry her inside. Once on the sofa, she would actively approach for fuss and cuddles. She is now voluntarily going into the house, where she will either jump onto the sofa or settle in her crate, although she is still not confident enough to wander around the home or choose to approach people herself.

She will go outside to toilet but doesn't yet choose to spend much time outside or explore the house. Carys is quite food motivated and will happily take a treat when one is offered, although she isn't yet confident enough to approach for one herself. She is gradually becoming accustomed to household noises and is very good with all of her fosterer's other dogs. She will also allow visitors to approach, stroke and handle her, but again remains too nervous to initiate the interaction herself.

Carys had never lived in a home before moving to foster, so everything was very new for her and she is still learning all about home life. She will need continued patience and understanding while she learns about house training, lead walking and the many other things that most dogs take for granted.

Carys will need a calm, quiet, adult-only home and would benefit from adopters with experience of ex-breeding dogs. She will need at least one other kind and confident resident dog in her new home to help her continue to build her confidence.

Carys arrived with sore skin and a thinning coat, which will need to continue to be supported with a good diet and grooming.

Carys has already made some lovely progress since arriving in foster, and it is clear that underneath her nerves is a gentle girl who enjoys affection and the company of people and dogs she trusts. She simply needs time, patience and the security of a supportive home to allow her to come out of her shell and reach her full potential.
