Blizzard is a beautiful, fluffy Husky who came to us from a breeder to find her forever home. She was a very scared girl when she first arrived with us and is still very nervous and unsure of the world around her. She is now in a foster home where she has settled in well and is learning, slowly, that humans can be kind, but this will take time, patience, and a calm and quiet, adult only home.

She relies heavily on other dogs for confidence, so will need at least one other calm and confident resident dog in her new home to help her settle and feel safe. Despite her fears, Blizzard is gentle and easy to handle, and when she thinks no one is watching, she’ll play with her doggy friends and shows us a glimpse of the playful dog we know is hiding in there.

Blizzard had never lived in a home before moving to foster, but she has settled in incredibly well and is now house trained. She has learned to walk on a lead since and loves walks but can get overwhelmed in new places and prefer quiet locations.

Blizzard will need an adult only, experienced home, where love is given patiently and progress is celebrated slowly. The bond you’ll build with her won’t happen overnight, but when it does, it will be truly special.

When Blizzard arrived, she was limping and missing part of a toe on her left front paw. X-rays showed this was due to an old fracture that left behind a small sharp piece of bone, which was causing her discomfort, especially after longer walks. She was also noted to have moderate carpal hyperextension with a more plantigrade (flatter) stance of the left wrist, likely related to altered weight-bearing from the painful digit. Due to ongoing discomfort, the decision was made to surgically amputate the affected toe with the sharp piece of bone to improve her comfort and function.

She has recovered well, but this is something that will need monitoring over time, but no further treatment is currently required, though she is currently having physio while in foster. In some dogs with this condition, a surgical procedure called carpal arthrodesis, which fuses the wrist bones together to provide stability may be beneficial, so this is something her adopters would need to bare in mind should she have any further pain the future.

Blizzard has a travel document.
