Sassy, Sweet Tanya Is Ready to Shine

Tanya is a 6-year-old Shih Tzu who came to us from a breeder and is now blossoming in her foster home. Like many ex-breeding dogs, Tanya had never lived in a home before and found everything new and overwhelming at first. But day by day, she’s growing in confidence and letting her true personality shine through.

Tanya is a classic Shih Tzu, full of character, a little bit stubborn, and secretly very loving. She enjoys a fuss and a treat (gently taken, of course), and she’ll even cuddle in on the sofa when the other dogs do, though she still likes to pretend she doesn’t need anyone. Her house training is coming along well, and while there are still the odd accidents overnight, she’s showing great promise and is an early riser who asks to go out first thing.

She walks happily in the garden and is practicing with her harness and lead, and over the past week, Tanya has made incredible progress. She now walks beautifully on her shorter lead and, when out on longer walks away from the road, enjoys bounding alongside the other dogs on a long trailing line. She’s responsive, comes back when called especially if there’s a treat involved and always stays close, regularly checking in with her humans. Tanya absolutely loves her walks and is never far from your side; when it’s time for a fuss, she’ll happily come over for attention whenever she gets the chance.

Tanya is wonderful with the other dogs in her foster home, playful, respectful, and even protective of the more nervous ones. She would love a home with at least one other kind and confident resident dog to be her companion and guide.

She has been diagnosed with low-grade patella luxation in both back legs. It doesn’t slow her down at all right now, she races about the garden like a whirlwind but it’s something her adopters should monitor, as any future treatment would not be covered by pet insurance.

Having had a lot of change recently, Tanya needs a calm, loving home where she can continue to settle at her own pace. She’s a bright, funny, independent girl who will thrive with someone who understands Shih Tzus and can give her the space and support she needs. In return, Tanya will offer loyalty, laughter, and a bit of adorable mischief along the way.
