Gus
Gus is a 3-year-old Miniature Poodle who has been waiting far too long for his second chance at happiness. He originally came to us from a breeder and was briefly adopted, but sadly returned when his playful, energetic nature proved a little too much. Since then, he has been in our care and has stolen more than a few hearts along the way.
Gus is a bright, affectionate boy with a huge zest for life. He is energetic, clever, and full of enthusiasm, and with experienced adopters who understand his spirited nature, he will truly thrive. His ideal home would be adult-only, active, and confident, with someone who can give him both structure and love while continuing to guide him as he grows in confidence and social skills.
He is currently sharing his kennel with other dogs and gets along well with them. Gus would love a home with a friendly, playful resident dog to be his companion and role model, in fact, he has already been a wonderful teacher to his kennel friend Savvy, helping her build confidence to walk on a harness. He has also met cats and done well with them.
Gus has made such wonderful progress during his time with us. Once unsure with strangers, he is now learning to trust more quickly, even happily cuddling up to staff he didn’t know well before. Out on walks, he is improving every day, much easier to handle than when he first arrived and he’s learning to pass other dogs calmly. He’s incredibly food motivated and loves to learn, which makes him a joy to train.
He’s also been busy enjoying new experiences: from fun adventures in the fields away from the bustle of the rescue, to showing off his handsome looks in a Christmas photo shoot, Gus has taken it all in his stride. He is around 90% house and kennel clean, not destructive in the home, and has even had a bath and full groom where he behaved brilliantly.
Gus has so much love to give. He is loyal, smart, and endlessly affectionate once he feels safe. What he needs now is a forever home where he will be truly seen and cherished for the wonderful dog he is. With time, patience, and love, Gus will blossom into the most devoted companion and whoever adopts him will be very lucky indeed.
Gus has received treatment for conjunctivitis in both eyes, an ear infection and a slight upward prolapse of the third eyelid.
