Mason the Mischief-Maker with a Heart of Gold

Mason is a handsome Shih Tzu who came to us from a breeder, and while his early days were full of fear and uncertainty, he has since blossomed into one of the most entertaining, affectionate little characters we’ve ever met. Life before rescue gave him very little experience of the world, but this lucky lad is making up for lost time in the most endearing ways.

Mason has been moved to a foster home and has already begun to learn the basics, like house training and walking on a lead. He’s already begun practicing with a harness and is doing really well and is almost completely clean in the house! However, he may need some reminding in a new environment.

Mason can live with both male and female dogs, but would prefer dogs larger than him, and not overly boisterous as he can be a bit of a grumbly and typical Shih Tzu. He’s met cats in rescue and has been absolutely fine with them, so he could live with a dog-savvy cat too.

Mason can be a little clumsy when he walks, and our vets believe this may be due to a neurological condition. It doesn’t stop him from enjoying life, but his adopters will need to ensure his home and garden are safe. He arrived with a non-active ulcer in his right eye, which has been treated and doesn't require any eye drops currently. He also had a patch in his left eye, which sadly developed into an ulcer, and unfortunately, his eye could not be saved. He has now had his left eye removed and is healing well. He has previously been treated for an ear infection.

When Mason first arrived, he was terrified and found being handled too quickly so overwhelming that he tried to nip out of sheer panic. But once he realised he was safe, he began to trust his carers quickly and has made truly remarkable progress. These days, Mason greets his favourite people with enthusiasm, demands belly rubs, and pushes his face into your hands for scratches. He’s playful, cheeky, clumsy, and full of personality, the kind of dog who makes you smile every single day. He is coming along nicely with house training and will make a great companion!

Despite all this, Mason doesn’t let anything dampen his spirit. He’s a true little trooper with so much love to give. In the right home, he will continue to thrive and bring endless joy and laughter to his people. Could you be the one to show Mason the world is a good place? He’s ready for his forever adventure – and we know he’ll make it unforgettable.
