Gentle Kernel is Looking for a Kind, Patient Home

Kernal is a 7-year-old Harrier who came to us from a breeder, a very shut-down and worried boy who, at first, just wanted to be invisible and not offend anyone. It broke our hearts to see how timid and unsure he was, but over time this sweet soul has begun to show us just how special he really is.

With the patience and love of his foster family, Kernal has made incredible progress. He is now fully house trained, although he may have some accidents at first in his new home while he settles, sleeps soundly through the night, and adores his walks more than anything. He walks beautifully on the lead, has conquered his fear of travelling in the van, and is adjusting well to the sounds and routines of home life. Watching him learn and grow has been such a joy.

Kernal is beginning to show his cheeky, gentle personality, sometimes even playing little games like coming forward for his lead and then backing away as if to say, “come and get me!” Though he’s still noise sensitive and can find quick movements or outstretched hands a little overwhelming, he’s learning to ask for gentle ear rubs and neck scratches. His default when worried is to freeze and cower rather than run, which shows just how much trust he is building.

This lovely boy relies heavily on the company of other dogs for reassurance and guidance, so he will need a home with kind and confident canine companions to continue helping him along his journey. Because of his sensitive nature, a quiet adult home would suit him best, though he could possibly live with calm, dog-savvy teenagers who respect his need for space. A home in the countryside would be ideal, as he finds busy areas too overwhelming but absolutely thrives when mooching along fields and tracks, following his nose.

Despite his age, Kernal has “zero miles on the clock” and is ready to begin his new life. He is the sweetest, gentlest boy who deserves the world, and in the right home, he will blossom into the most loyal and loving companion.
