  • Human family requirements

I need a calm and quiet, adult only home where I can settle in at my own pace.

  • Other pet requirements

I need a home with a female larger than me or with males & I am in foster with a cat.

  • House and garden requirements

I’m still shy, so I will need a secure garden while I get used to my new home.

  • Out and about requirements

Walks are too scary for me yet, maybe some slow garden sniffs will be a good start.

  • Training needs

I am learning house training in my foster home & will need to learn to walk on a lead

  • Medical issues

I’m fully vaccinated and spayed and have had one tooth removed.

Mushroom is a gentle little girl who came to us from a breeder and has already come such a long way from the very nervous dog who first arrived. Life was overwhelming at first, but with time, patience, and kind care, she is slowly learning that the world is not such a scary place after all, it’s full of tasty treats, soft toys, and people who want to help her feel safe.

Maisie is still a shy and sensitive soul, but she’s growing in confidence each day. She’s much more comfortable being handled now and is rarely making the wrong decision when picked up. She has discovered that treats are wonderful and will now take them gently from her foster carers’ hands, even giving them her best “Oliver look” as if to say, “Please sir, can I have some more?”

She is enjoying the comforts of home life and has made great progress with her house training, with only the occasional mishap. She sleeps soundly through the night, often curling up in her favourite spot, the dog chair, where she can watch the world go by in peace.

Maisie has also started to show her playful side. She’s still learning how to play properly and sometimes gets a bit carried away with her toys, but she’s learning that a good chew on a nylon bone is a much better idea!

She doesn’t yet walk on a lead, but now that she’s more accepting of being handled, her foster family have begun to gently introduce her to wearing a harness. As with everything in her journey, Maisie will take this next step at her own pace.

Maisie will need a calm, patient, adult-only home with adopters who understand nervous dogs and can give her the time and space she needs to continue building her confidence. Mushroom will need a confident female dog that is larger than her or a male resident dog in the home, as she takes great comfort from canine company and looks to them for reassurance and guidance. She is in foster with a cat and so could potentially be homed with a dog savvy cat. Adopters will also need to be mindful of her grooming needs as part of her ongoing care.

This sweet girl has already shown such courage and determination. With gentle handling, understanding, and love, Maisie will continue to blossom into the affectionate and loyal little companion she’s destined to be.
