Betsi
18-06-25 Meet Betsi, our little heartbreaker. She is looking for an incredibly special home as she is an extremely scared little girl at the moment who is in desperate need of a quiet home, where she can feel safe and secure.
Betsi arrived at Many Tears with another cat after their owner sadly had to move house and couldn’t take them along. They weren't especially bonded and so he has now been adopted but sadly Betsi remains here.
Life in the cattery has been especially difficult for Betsi. Although our cattery is calm, quiet and placed as far away from the dogs as possible, it can still be extremely overwhelming for some cats. The distant barking, unfamiliar noises and the coming and going of staff and volunteers can be a lot to cope with, and for Betsi, it’s simply too much.
She is absolutely terrified. Most of her day is spent curled up in her bed, too frightened to venture out. We try to gently encourage her to play or explore, but she prefers to stay hidden. Betsi isn’t comfortable being touched or handled, and every passing day she seems to become even less tolerant to us, which is heartbreaking. She can be a little spicy, letting you know in no uncertain terms that she’d like to be left alone by scratching, hissing and spitting. We understand this is only through fear, and we’re certain there’s a sweet girl hiding inside.
We’ve seen glimpses of the real Betsi from photos and stories from her previous home. There she was a loving girl who adored curling up on the sofa in a fluffy blanket and who would happily roll over for belly rubs. That sweet, affectionate cat is still in there, just buried under layers of fear.
What Betsi needs more than anything is someone incredibly patient and kind. Someone who will see past her scared exterior and overlook the initial spiciness. Someone who will take her home and let her settle in with no expectations at all. She may never become the typical lap cat, but she deserves the chance to feel safe, loved, and accepted exactly as she is. And who knows? She might just surprise us.
Betsi would be best suited to a calm and quiet, adult only home with adopters who have experience with scared cats. We would consider homing her with other cats provided that introductions are done slowly and properly. Betsi would be perfectly happy to be homed as an indoor only cat, though in her previous home she did sometimes venture outside. If her new home is in a quiet area away from busy roads, outdoor access could be considered once she has fully settled and built trust with her adopters.
With the right person, Betsi’s story can go from heartbreak to happiness. She may never be a “typical” cat, but she still deserves her happy ending.
Because Betsi will need such a special person, we have waived her adoption fee. Our only wish is to find someone who will open their heart and home to a cat who asks for very little, but who could one day give so much back in return.
